PhD in Nursing Plan of Study

Core component

Areas of study will include courses from the following selected domains:

  • Nursing science
  • Theory construction
  • Research methods, analysis and practice
  • Bioethics
  • Population health policy
  • Leadership
  • Funding

Dissertation

Completion of the PhD degree requires a minimum of seven hours of dissertation credit.

Elective component

The elective component is developed and designed with the student's adviser to meet the student's needs as well as to meet program requirements.

Plan of study

First time students are required to take three hours of doctoral-level biostatistics prior to starting PHN courses. Plans of study are determined in collaboration with the student's advisory committee. Flexible plans of study are available.

Post-BSN students must also take a minimum of 8 hours of pre-approved electives.
DNP to PhD plan of study—determined on an individual student basis via gap analysis.
Students must enroll in PHN 701 until successful dissertation proposal defense.
